Alex Henderson is a young Adelaide soap maker who started his business in 2006. Initially selling through friends and family contacts and local craft markets, he made the decision that a web presence was needed for his business to expand. Important factors for him were the ability to have national exposure via web search engines, take orders online, list and change products as his business grows and have postage calculated and collected with product payments. He also wanted to showcase the manufacturing process that differentiates his business from the more usual re-sellers. As we worked on his website, we realised that we were working extensively on building much of the structure for his business from how the whole distribution side of things would work, to the branding, logo and some product ideas, even his business name. Alex now has an online store that will support his growing business well into the future.

ALEX HENDERSON, Macclesfield, South Australia "The next step in promoting my business was to have an Internet shop built but I was hesitant to take that step. I had a few things to consider, one of which was, could I provide enough product if everyone in Australia logged onto my site the day after the shop went on the web, and bought something?!!! At this same time Jo from U On The Web was about to start up business building web sites. Knowing her extensive knowledge and work with computing I contracted her to build my site as her first web site. I really enjoyed the journey of working together, getting to know what we could achieve and yes, she had the solution for my fears of providing enough product. Simple, I input how many of a particular item I have and as the last one is ordered it automatically disappears from the site!! Jo really listened to me about what I wanted, but was also able to guide me by saying, had I thought about this or that and between the two of us I am very pleased with the final result. I enjoyed our "play day" where Jo set the site up and I could "play" with colours, fonts etc. She taught me to manage the shop myself. Now that www.handcraftedsoaps.com.au has been launched, I am beginning to realise the extent of how my business can reach a huge customer base." |

Nicky and John Henderson opened Mirrabooka B&B to their first guests in 2000. Until late 2006 they were listed solely in industry catalogues and association websites. They recently decided it was time to have their own website. Important factors for them were the opportunity to showcase their beautiful property with a photo gallery, the ability to take booking requests by email and for their guests to make payments online. Whilst they already had a strong branding for the B&B in their brochure, together we developed something different for the website influenced by the ambience and decor of the cottage and its secluded rural setting. The opportunity to preview their stay by browsing through the photo album proved to be a winner with prospective guests within days of the site being launched. |

"Due to a really big Advertising booboo made by me our bed and breakfast business recently had a desperate need to have a web site developed. Jo from U On The Web was there for me just at the right time. I had no idea where to start but when Jo met with me we went through the process of looking at our aims and what we have to offer and with her expertise and creative flair we realized that we really did know what we wanted. After our initial meeting Jo gave us a list of things to do, and how to do some of them eg creating a paypal account. She sent me a working draft of our discussed ideas, then she built the site and we were able to see the progress and discuss changes etc. The main things we want to achieve in our web site are
I enjoyed the process of working with Jo, she understood our needs. Because she had been out to look at our B & B she suggested the types of angles to take photos from, which in turn prompted me to go further than I had before in promoting not only the B & B but the walks, picnic spots, and (Jo's brilliant idea) the visual feast!! The final product has been successful in 'closing the sale'. I can confidently recommend U On The Web to any one wanting a web site." |
